Exclusive Song Release: Lost in Wonder

The songs I have shared on previous posts are part of a series of demos I am recording from home while my first CD, entitled "Naked", is being mixed down and mastered for CD release. I just received the first mix down for the song "Lost in Wonder" and decided it would be fun to share a preview of one of the songs from the upcoming CD. I am making this preview CD release an exclusive to my blog and can ONLY BE HEARD HERE. Technically speaking it is on my SoundCloud.com profile because I needed the widget from that site to post the song here but the song is ONLY available for download here @ Wolfgang Carter Music!

This song was recorded last and is to be the last song to close out the CD. Being a guitarist I wanted a song to finish the CD that was heavily guitar driven with a jam style riff.A kind of "Classic Rock" style riff the was fun and easy for other guitar players to pick up and jam with. This song went through several transformations before finally being recorded. I came up with the main riff this past December and finished the first version of the song within a week or two. The song had a different title and lyrics but just was not quite right. I kept working on as I recorded other songs and came up with several different versions but still was not the song I wanted it to be.

On the day I recorded it I kept working it out while doing stuff around the house and ideas just kept coming. More than several different parts just came to me and with no way to record them at the time I had to have faith they would all work together. I came up with five different guitar riffs and wrote verse guitar riffs and bass lines to complement them. Then I could not decide on which I liked better of the two drum lines I wrote and decided to use both by sectioning off and transitioning the song to include both. I was very happy with the result that night and feel it adds some real punch to the song especially during the transition.

I hope you enjoy the song because I had a blast writing and putting it together. It turned out to be the release I needed during a very frustrated period of my life. I feel the lyrics reflect that and the music, along with the solo, conveys the battle of emotions we all face in relationships at some point in our lives.

New Song: Star Day Gone

The sixth song in my series of home studio demos. This one is different from the rest because I used a new M-Audio USB microphone to record the vocals and acoustic guitar plus I used a M-Audio Fast Track USB interface to record all the other instruments. I used Sony's Music Studio 7 software to record the song and this is my first time using the software, interface and microphone. Though still not pro studio quality the improvement in sound in comparison to my previous demo releases is much better.

I wrote this song a couple of months ago on my way home from my second job. It was a weeknight around 3am and had been working 8hrs at each job every day for a little over two weeks. Plus I was recording my CD on the weekends as well. Was living off of 2-3hrs sleep each night and 2-3 Monster energy drinks everyday. I had gotten to a point where I felt like I didn't know what I was doing anymore and though I was busy as hell I also had never felt as lost as I did when I wrote the song. I used my cellphone to record the lyrics as they came to me and then when I got home I grabbed my guitar and played how I felt. The song came together in less than 10 minutes. I'm really proud of it and hope you enjoy.

The Fifth song release in my Home Studio Demo series. I wrote this as a follow up to the last song I wrote called "The Butcher". When recovering after a situation that changes your life all of us do one of two thing, either we fold under what feels like the weight of the world or we triumph to see the brilliance of a bright new day. "ShiNe" is about this passage of triumph we need to find after we rid ourselves from the butchers, thieves and liars that try to consume who we are. I hope you enjoy the song. ShiNe On - Wolfgang

Sometimes truth is not only stranger than fiction, but sadder as well. Hence the title of "The Butcher", the latest song released in my series of "Home Studio Demo" recordings. When relationships end they often end poorly and sometimes the end with serious consequences. A close friend of mine experienced such an ending and gave me the idea for this song. It is written as anthem for her during her recovery for which I hope brings her strength.

This song is the fourth release in my "Home Studio Demo" series. Came up with the music for the verse one day when just messing around during a Scandal Hounds practice session. The original riff is not quite what you hear but I worked on it until it sounded it right to me then worked out the bridge and chorus sections. Lyrically this song means a lot to me and is very personal. I am very happy with how the demo came out and while there are a few mistakes here and there I didn't think to perfect the song being that it is the demo and was kind of under a time crunch to finish it.

Here is the newest song in my series of home studio demos called "Pieces". I wrote this from the perspective of an old forgotten teddy bear sitting on a shelf in an older girls room as the stuffed animal watches the girl breakdown. The thought being that we all need comfort from time to time and with the chaos that daily life can be we more often than not forget the little things that are there to offer us support when we need. Things that have been there to witness our ups and downs. Been having some problems with the software I record with but found a way to make the song work despite some issues.

Came up with this riff a couple of weeks ago along with the chorus but wasn't sure on how to finish it. Song has been nagging me for days. Then one night the whole song just came together. I finished the lyrics, bass line and drums in less than an hour. So I decided since the song came together in such an organic way that I should try and record it with my make shift lap top home studio set up. The quality is by far from what I would prefer but I do think the recording captured the spirit of the song. Hope you enjoy!
